Thanksgiving Feast!

Today the Owls had a delicious Thanksgiving Family Snack. Friends enjoyed turkey and cheese sandwiches, cranberry sauce, fruit salad and cornbread muffins. During our snack friends went around the table to say what they are Thankful for. The Owls had a lot to be thankful for and here are a few things...

"My Mommy and Daddy"

"For Playing with Paige and Stella"

"The Trees"

"The Ninja Turtles"

"The Owls"

"Going to Michigan with my family!"
"The Birds"

"The whole world"
"My muffin"

The Owls would like to wish everyone a "HOOTful" Thanksgiving!
We hope that everyone stays safe and warm!

Our Fall Favorites! Music in the Cardinal, Catbird & Owl Classrooms

This fall, music with the Owls, Cardinals and Catbirds has been full of songs, rhymes, games, movement and instruments. I wanted to share some of the activities we’ve loved the most!

Five little Pumpkins (click to see video)

First, we turned this story into a finger play and acted out the different motions. We took turns being the different pumpkins and had a ‘solo’ part when it was our turn to talk. We added sound effects creating wind sounds and using other percussion instruments like drums, woodblocks, bells and more!

Little Autumn Fairy

A little Autumn fairy,
Sitting in a tree,
Painting all the leaves,
And throwing them at me.

Sunny leaves of yellow,
Ruby leaves of red,
Come fluttering down,
All around my head.

Soon the branches will be bare,
The leaves will all be shed,
And the squirrels and the hedgehogs,
Will all go to bed!

Trees!
Pumpkin Patch Song & Game
Where Oh Where Oh Where is _______? (x3)
Way down yonder in the pumpkin patch!

One person is in the middle of the circle and they close their eyes. Four other friends hide pretend pumpkins around the room. When they have everything hidden, we start singing the song and the person in the middle has to go and find the pumpkins.
The next step with this game is to hide just one pumpkin and then sing loudly when they are close to finding the pumpkin and sing quietly when they are far away.

Seven Jumps
This is a folk dance from Denmark. I used the music in a different way for our young friends!
Check out this VIDEO from the Cardinal class.
We have recently added finger cymbals and drums to this piece!

Thanks a lot!
A song for Thanksgiving.

We have started listening and learning this beautiful song. We have shared some of the things we are thankful for too!

Making Portraits and Music

Today, friends worked on their November self-portraits. Focusing in on all the details of their faces.

The Owls question of "How is Danielle getting there?" was finally answered when we had the chance to FaceTime with Danielle from the airport. She showed us the airplane!

Outdoor play was a lot of fun. Especially, since the temperature was much more pleasant than the past two days!

Friends collected "ingredients" from outside to make soup.

Some friends chose to build stores and houses.

The Owls made beautiful music using all different types of instruments. Friends observed their instruments and made predications as to what they may sound like when played.

Ask your Owl what instrument they enjoyed playing most!
