HOP, SKIP, and JUMP:
Creative Movement and Dance!
Grades: Early Childhood and Kindergarten
Winter: Thursdays, January 13 – March 6
Maximum: 10 students

Creative movement is an art for whose medium is the human body in motion.  In this class, children will learn to recognize their own individuality and body mobility through imitation and imagery.  We use fun, upbeat music to learn basic skills like hopping, skipping, jumping, galloping, and balance coordination. Students will also engage in dramatic music movement and learn introductory ballet steps.  These include plies, tendu, releve, arabesque, the five positions of the feet, and other introductory dance steps.  We use some props including dancing with scarves, spots on the floor to keep their places, and allow a short time for “free dance” where the little munchkins have the freedom to express themselves with their bodies.

Instructor:
Jasmine Zowniriw, Lower School Faculty
Fee: $140 – 8 Sessions

Castles, Reports, and More

A couple of friends shared their reports today. The Owls learned about the Gong and Xylophone.

Fact: The center of the gong is called the boss.

The Catbirds let us borrow their gong so we could listen and feel the vibrations it makes.

Fact: The xylophone is a part of the percussion family.

During choice, friends built castles out of magnatiles and used their imaginations in the dollhouse.

The drawing table is always a hit! Friends are adding more and more details to their works each day.

Some Owls played "teacher."

Others worked together to solve puzzles.

The Owls are working on a TOP SECRET project. Soon to be revealed.

Ask your Owl what it felt like when we rang the gong.

Owl Days

After music rehearsal this morning, the Owls came back to the classroom for Morning Meeting and Research Report presentations.

Fact: Cymbals are made of gold.

Fact: Piccolo is the Italian word for little.

After sharing reports, friends went into choice where they chose between books, dollhouse, magnatiles, drawing and coloring, instruments, and roll the dye.

Keeping the beat on the bongos.

Andrea visited our classroom today, and read some books with friends.

Say "CHEESE" for the camera.

Shaking the maracas.

Some friends played a math game called Role the Dye. First, you role the dye, then depending on what number it lands on, use the curves and lines to make the number.

The snow made outdoor play extra special today.

Some friends made "marshmallows" that they put on Christina's hood. Other friends made miniature snowballs.

During read aloud, Danielle read The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig.
