Recently, the Owls have been getting much better at buttoning their clothes, zipping their jackets and drawing. In order to continue to develop these skills, friends took part in a "Finger Workout Workshop." A Finger Workout Workshop is a fun and exciting way for friends to participate in different activities that challenge and develop their fine motor skills. Friends began the workshop with some finger stretches! Once our fingers were all stretched, Danielle and Samantha "pointed" us to our activities.
The first activity was the "POMPOM Challenge." For this activity, the Owls had to see how many Pompoms they could pick up using chopsticks in 30 seconds. Once the 30 seconds were over, friends counted up how many pompoms they could pick up and recorded their totals on our Pompom Challenge Chart. This activity took a lot of patience and practice because some of the pompoms were large while others were very small, which made them more difficult to pick up.
The second fine motor challenge was beading. This is great activity helps friends develop their fine motor skills and their hand eye coordination. The Owls made beautiful necklaces and bracelets that they proudly wore for the entire day.
The third activity was Legos. Friends built speedy cars and trucks as well as sky high buildings. This activity is not only fun, but it helps friends practice their fine motor skills because they need to manipulate the small pieces in a purposeful manner in order for the Legos to connect together.
The last and messiest activity was shaving cream. First, friends used spray bottles filled with watercolors to color the shaving cream. Then they were able to get all messy by squishing the shaving cream. This activity helps friends practice their fine motor skills by squishing the shaving cream between their hands and by the "spraying" of the spray bottles.
The Owls gave the Finger Workout Workshop two thumbs up! No pun intended :)
Ask your Owl how many Pompoms they were able to pick up using the chopsticks!
